Bible College News: Homecoming Kick-Off
The 2010 Alumni Homecoming got on its way last night, Thursday, October 7 as alumni from all over returned to the campus of Appalachian Bible College. Some enjoyed the days of Dr. Pipkin and Appalachian Bible Institute and some having received their Servants Mantel just this past year. Regardless, all relished in the fellowship of Christ and their common bond of having been equipped for ministry here at ABC.
The evenings events were full of laughter and spontaneity as alumni tested their knowledge of ABC’s history during ABC Jeopardy. Questions like, “What was the cost of room and board in 1950?” or “Who was the pastor that called Dr. Pipkin to partner with him in starting a Bible Institute in WV?” As the teams rang their bells, answers flew, and when all was said and done, everyone received the prize of refreshments.
Visiting with former classmates and like-minded alumni is just that, refreshing. But even after the food and fellowship the Alumni Committee took it a step further to refresh guest through the hearing of God’s Word. The Homecoming speaker, Dr. Jim Efaw appropriately challenged hearers to display characteristics revealed in the life of Jonathan, David's beloved friend throughout 1 Samuel. And although very little is known about Jonathan, Saul’s son, what is known from Scripture reflects characteristics that Paul stresses in 1 Corinthians 13, a portrait of Christ-like love.
Overwhelmingly, through the fun and the serious the evening refreshed and challenged hearts to be “Servants of the Lord”. We invite you to join us on Facebook to see photos of the evening.
