Bible College News: Loving the Strangers Among Us

Every year we deliberately interrupt our academic routine with a Missions Conference. It is an exciting time for us to turn attention to our Lord's Great Commission; "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."

The Commission uses the words "Go" and "all nations" in that order. We are going to flip that idea over! This year our conference will focus on how we do not always have to go to "all nations" because some of them are coming to us. Our focus is on the peoples who are immigrating to our shores. They are "strangers" in our homeland and we need make disciples of them whenever possible.

Our theme verse is from the Old Testament. It is Deut 10:19. The verse says "Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt." That text was a reminder to God's Old Testament people (Israel) that they were commanded to love the strangers in their midst. They were to remember that they were once strangers. That memory was to encourage them to show love to the strangers among them. As God's New Testament people (the Church), we can see a principle in that verse. We need to love the strangers among us and share the Faith with them!

Join us in prayer for this year's Missions Conference by downloading or printing the Missions Conference 30 Day Prayer Challenge. By focusing our hearts on Missions it is our prayer that the conference will encourage and equip us to "Love the Strangers 'because He first loved us".
