Program Information

The Master of Arts in Ministry program is a 36-hour professional curriculum program developed for individuals actively involved in ministry, such as pastors, missionaries, Christian leaders and evangelists.This program provides graduate-level training for students whose undergraduate work is from a Bible College with a minimum of 30 hours of Bible and theology.

This program is designed to prepare graduates to accomplish practical areas of ministry, such as local church ministry, evangelism, church planting, Christian Education, and Christian Leadership. It seeks to prepare graduates with skills in leadership, communication and counseling. The program equips the graduate with assessment tools to relate to the particular ministry context they are in.

This program is designed to be professional, economical, flexible and convenient. The content of the courses emphasize the practical skills of communication, counseling, and leadership necessary for effective ministry.

Program Objectives

  1. Philosophy of Ministry: To present the theory and practical instruction related to the conducting of church ministries from a conservative, fundamentalist Christian perspective including a conservative philosophy of godly Christian music.
  2. Biblical Knowledge: To demonstrate proficiency of knowledge in all areas of Bible theology and in all Bible content from a pretribulational, dispensational, premillenineal viewpoint.
  3. Spiritual Growth: To instill godly, Christ like character in the candidate by the mentoring process resulting in fruitful, spiritual service.
  4. Professional Proficiency: To develop the practical skills of servant-leadership appropriate to the various avenues of Christian service reinforcing the commitment to edify and equip servants for the church.
  5. Evangelistic Outreach: To provide opportunity to expand one’s horizons in the areas of missions and evangelism/discipleship while increasing a commitment to the historic, fundamentalist position of Biblical separation.

Entrance Requirements

  • A Bible College graduate with a baccalaureate degree, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 30 semester hours of accredited Bible and theology-related courses
  • Ministry experience
  • A 2.75 grade point average (on a scale of 4.0)
  • Bible Content Exam

Transfer Credits

A minimum of 18 hours must be completed through Appalachian Bible College. Transfer work from accredited institutions may be accepted for courses that meet the Program requirements and in which at least a B grade has been received.

Program Outline

The academic program leading to the Master of Arts in Ministry degree is designed with a professional ministry emphasis. The program will lead to effective practical skills in ministry. It has 11 courses, or 33 credit hours, plus a 3-credit field project as outlined below.

Graduation Requirements

  • Fulfill all admissions requirements
  • Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Sign a statement of agreement with Appalachian Bible College’s doctrinal statement
  • Complete total number of designated academic coursework hours according to the program requirements.
  • Complete the required units of Practical Christian Service
  • Complete the coursework within a five year period
  • Pay the graduation fee

Provisional Acceptance Policy

Any student may take up to 9 hours before final acceptance in the MA in Ministry Program.

Course Format: (Courses are designed in two ways:)

  1. Modular Format: In this format there are three parts:
    1. Pre-Module Work On-line (Reading, on-line discussions, etc.)
    2. On-Campus Modules: One-week all day courses
    3. Post-Module Project: This is a project that is completed during the month after the on-campus module
  2. Limited On-Line Courses, with no on-campus meeting are being developed.
