Financial Aid

Grants, Loans, and Others:

Federal Pell Grant
This is a program which provides federal funds for students from families which qualify. These grants may range up to $4,050 (or based upon revised federal schedules) for eligible students. Application forms may be obtained from your high school guidance counselor or from our Office of Financial Aid. The ABC Pell Code #: 007544.
West Virginia Higher Education
Students from West Virginia are eligible for grants under the West Virginia Higher Education Grant program. These grants are awarded in annual amounts of $1800+ per academic year. In order to be eligible for this program, a recipient must:
1. be a citizen of the United States;
2. have been a resident of West Virginia for at least one year immediately; preceding the date of application for a grant or renewal of a grant;
3. require financial assistance to pursue a post secondary education;
4. possess academic promise and be making satisfactory progress; and
5. enroll as a full-time undergraduate in an approved educational institution.
NOTE: Application for the West Virginia Higher Education Grant is done through the FAFSA when applying for the Pell Grant. Application deadline is March 1st, but it is best to apply as early as possible after January 1st.
Promise Scholarship
Recipients must be West Virginia residents at least 12 months prior to applying, with one half of high school credits required for graduating having been completed at a WV public or private high school. Home-school students must receive two years of instruction within WV immediately preceding application.
Students must receive a high school GPA of 3.0 and an ACT Composite of 21 or SAT Composite of 1,000 to be eligible. Students must be enrolled full-time at a regionally accredited college and making a 2.75 GPA minimum to renew this scholarship annually.
Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency
Students from Pennsylvania attending college in West Virginia are eligible to receive a percentage of the PA State Grant, up to an annual limit of $600 per academic year. A recipient must be a PA resident, high school graduate, enrolled as (at least) a half-time student in an approved program at a PHEAA approved school. The student must be making academic progress and not be in default on a student loan.
Michigan State Merit Award
Michigan high school seniors taking the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) Tests are eligible to apply for a one year $1,000 scholarship to attend college in West Virginia. Qualification is based on MEAP scores.
Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP)
This is a program which provides Federal loans for students. There are several kinds of loans within this group, all with varying interest rates and repayment schedules.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
This is a grant that ranges up to $500 and is for students with exceptional financial need.
Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Repayment begins six (6) months after you cease to be a student . The interest rate is variable during the repayment period, but will not exceed 9%. Combined with the Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan (described next) and depending on your need, you may borrow up to:
- $2625, if you are a first year undergraduate
- $3500, if you have successfully completed the first year of undergraduate work (2nd year)
- $5500, if you have successfully completed the first and second year of undergraduate work (3rd, 4th, and if applicable, 5th year). The total Stafford Loan debt you can have outstanding as an undergraduate is $23,000.
Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
Repayment begins six (6) months after you cease to be a student; however, the interest is either paid by the student during the period of study or added to the loan principal to be paid by the student during the repayment period. The interest rate is variable, but will not exceed 9%. Combined with the subsidized Federal Stafford Loan described above and depending on your need, you may borrow unsubsidized funds in varying amounts. Different limits apply to dependent and independent students.
Federal Plus Loan
This is a loan for parents and repayment begins immediately. The interest rate is variable but will not exceed 10%. The parent may borrow an amount up to the estimated cost of education less any financial aid the student receives.
Federal Work-Study
FWS gives you a chance to earn money to help pay for your education. The amount you may earn under this program is based on need, availability of funds, and availability of college employment.
Veterans Administration Benefits
Those eligible for veteran’s benefits should contact their Veteran’s Service Office to obtain a letter of eligibility. ABC’s VA Rep should also be notified.
Vocational Rehabilitation
Financial assistance and program counseling are provided by most states to assist disabled individuals to return to productive activity. Contact the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for further information.
National Guard Tuition Benefit
Those eligible for tuition benefits should contact their regional national guard unit.

ABC Scholarships:

Each scholarship and discount carries its own qualification requirements, but the following are conditions common to all ABC-sponsored assistance.
  1. Awards are based on need and availability of funds.
  2. All students must also apply for Pell Grant.
  3. Scholarships are awarded only to full-time students.
  4. Scholarships may no exceed the amount of the school bill.
  5. No one may receive more than one ABC-based scholarship per academic year, with the only exception being the Scholastic Achievement Scholarship.
  6. All who qualify for more than one scholarship, may receive the higher of the two.
  7. Scholarship deadlines: June 15th for the Fall semester and December 1st for the Spring semester.

THESE REQUIREMENTS APPLY ONLY TO SCHOLARSHIPS GIVEN BY THE COLLEGE AND NOT THOSE THE STUDENT HAS RECEIVED FROM OTHER SOURCES.

Pastoral Scholarship
Given in the amount of $750 $1000. Available to new students through pastors of churches who contribute regularly to ABC. The recipient must be a member of that church or student in a Christian school operated by that church. The pastor must submit a written recommendation.
Professional Christian Worker's Children Scholarship
A scholarship, together with the Federal Pell Grant, providing 50% of tuition, room and meal cost to any qualifying student. Specific qualifications available from the Financial Aid Office upon request.
Children of Alumni Scholarship
Given in the amount of $750 $1000. Available to dependent children of alumni. These scholarships are renewable annually with a 2.0 GPA.
Fulmer/King Memorial Alumni Scholarship
Given in the amount of $750 $1000. Available to new students through the written recommendation of a current ABC alumni association member.
Scholastic Achievement Scholarship
Given in the amount of $1000 $1500. Available to new students who receive an ACT composite score of at least 26, or a SAT composite score of at least 1180. These scholarships are renewable at $750 per semester with a 3.25 GPA. This ABC-based scholarship may be received in addition to another.
International Student Scholarship
Given in the amount of $750 $1000. Available to students who are citizens of a foreign country. These scholarships are renewable annually with a 2.0 GPA.
Board of Director's Scholarship
Given in the amount of $900 $1500. Available to new students through the written recommendation of a member of ABC’s Board of Directors.
Independent Fundamental Churches of America (IFCA) Scholarship
Given in the amount of $1000 $1500. Those receiving a “Superior” rating in national competition are eligible to receive a $1500 scholarship, renewable at $750 each semester with a 3.0 GPA.
Competition Scholarship
Given in the amount of $750 $1000. Available to new students who have placed 1st or 2nd in a state or national academic or talent competition.
Principal's Scholarship
Given in the amount of $750 $1000. Available to new students, and are awarded by high school principals. These scholarships are based on high academic achievement and Christian character.
AWANA Scholarship
Given in the amount of $1000 $1500 and $750 $1000. Those receiving a Citation Award are eligible to receive a $1500 scholarship, renewable at $750 each semester with a 3.25 GPA. Those receiving a Meritorious Trophy are eligible to receive a $1000 scholarship for their first year only.

Private Scholarships:

Word of Life Matching Scholarship
Available to recipients of Word-of-Life Club scholarships. Questions may be addressed to the Director of Financial Aid.
Mr. & Mrs. Fred A. Bolton Missions Scholarships
Given in the amount of $2,000. Available to students preparing for missionary service at ABC and are recommended by a financial aid committee.
Carter Family Scholarship
Given in the amount of $1,000. Available primarily to local West Virginia residents who attend ABC and have financial need. Students are recommended by a financial aid committee.

Awards:

The College has a number of awards available to returning students. More than 20 specifically funded scholarships are awarded annually by ABC with amounts ranging from $100 to $1,000. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of personal qualifications and academic achievement.

Discounts:

Commuter Discount
Available to off campus residents taking less than 12 credit hours in the amount of 50% on the first four credit hours.
High School Senior Discount
Available to community high school seniors. The discount is a free three-hour course each semester of the senior year. Restrictions apply.
Missionary Discount
Available to missionaries in the amount of a 50% discount on all credit courses for alumni missionaries and a 30% discount for others. Qualifications are: being a member of an ABC approved mission board, a minimum of one term on the field with plans to return.
Senior Citizen Discount
Available to those 55 years of age or older in the amount of 25% on all credit courses.
Spouse Discount
Available to spouses of ABC students. The student must be taking at least 12 credit hours for the spouse to qualify for the discount. The discount is a free three-hour credit course per semester.
