Frequently Asked Questions

Admissions

Are AP or CLEP courses accepted for credit?
Yes, they can be evaluated for acceptance if certain criteria are met.
If I have been home-schooled, are there special requirements such as taking the GED?
Home-schoolers are welcome, and no, the GED is not required. You must submit a transcript of subjects studied, grades earned, curriculum used, and include the signature of the parent/supervisor verifying completion of the high school program of study and the date of completion.
If my Dad is my pastor, who should complete my pastoral reference?
All references should be completed by someone not related to you, but for the pastoral reference, have a deacon, elder or other leader in your church complete your form.
When is the best time to apply? Is there a deadline?
No, however, early fall of your high school senior year is the ideal, so that paperwork can be completed and requirements can be met before the rush of the holidays to avoid delays with holiday mail and school closings (to have transcripts released). Also, this will allow you to begin the financial aid process as soon as possible after January 1st, as you are strongly encouraged to do. Married Students please note: if you wish to apply for campus housing in Appalachian Village for married students, you must not only apply, but receive a Final Acceptance decision on your application for admission to be placed on the waiting list for housing. This list normally builds quickly so early application is strongly encouraged.
